PRACTICE TRACKERS

Good results when learning a musical instrument are impossible without regular practice at home. To help students and teachers monitor progress and the quality of home practice, we recommend using our simple, easy-to-use practice trackers.

YEARLY PRACTICE TRACKER

The yearly tracker covers 52 weeks — almost the entire year on a single A4 sheet. It helps both children and adults stay motivated and practise every day.

Instructions for filling in the annual tracker

  • At the beginning of each week, write down the Monday's date (this will make it easier to remember which days you practised if you need to check during the year).

  • Decide what each colour will represent (see the example). After each practice session, colour in the corresponding circle with a coloured pencil, then write the duration of the session in minutes above it using a regular pencil or pen.

WEEKLY PRACTICE TRACKER

The weekly tracker can be printed with 2 weeks per page or 4 weeks per page. It is designed to help both students and teachers assess the quality of home practice.

Instructions for filling in the weekly tracker

1. Write the dates in the cells of the first row. The tracker covers 7 days.

2. Divide each piece of music into bars or sections. If the sections are not marked in the sheet music, label them in pencil.

3. Start practising. For example, you begin with the first four bars of a scale and repeat them 10 times to memorise the notes.

4. In the left-hand column, write
“Scale, bars 1–4”.

5. In the cell below the date, write
“10 times, by heart”.

6. Move on to the next section.

Add new section options in the rows below as needed.
